5 Reasons to Visit and See Quezon City this Weekend

If there’s one place or city you should be or must be in this weekend, make sure you are in Quezon City! Celebrating its 75th Jubilee Year this October 11-12, the city which is named after the Father of Commonwealth, President Manuel L. Quezon, has prepared a stunning and worth remembering spectacle not only for the country to see, but for the whole world!

Quezon Memorial Shrine

I was able to list down five of the must-see and must-experience happenings in Quezon City this weekend, and all I can say is make sure you drink a bottle or two of energy drink because this Saturday and Sunday is one helluva jam-packed weekend made to excite you, satiate your taste buds and take you back in time where Quezon City is the passage through of history and its people.

1. Give Back in QC

Before all the festivities, Quezon City, through the help of some private companies, will conduct a medial mission in all of the six districts of the cities. There will be some private and public doctors and nurses as well as other non-profit organizations that will facilitate this activity.

World Habitat Day at Bistekville 1, Payatas

Habitat for Humanity Philippines, in celebration of World Habitat Day, will also conduct a World Habitat Day build in two of their sites in Quezon City – Bistekville 1 in Payatas and Bistekville 4 in Mindanao Avenue.

So, if you are up for some advocacies visit Quezon City Hall and look for their Health Care Department to commit. As for the Habitat builds, you can visit their website www.habitat.org.ph to know how to volunteer with them this weekend.

2. Get Fit in QC

On their attempt to steal the Guinness World Record of the Largest Zumba class from India, Quezon City, through the help of local Zumba schools and fitness centers, private companies, other government offices, groups and school, will try to beat the recorded number of 6,671 Zumba dancers in one class with their target number of 10,000 participants.

This one will be held in Quezon City Memorial Circle and will be headed by the country’s certified Zumba instructor Regine Tolentino. The gathering will start at around noon and the actual presentation will be at 4 p.m.

Don’t forget to bring your Zumba outfit! Registration is free!

3. Shop till you Drop in QC

As a tradition, being a house to number of the country’s largest shopping malls, this weekend, all shopping malls in Quezon City will be having a special mall-wide sale.

SM North EDSA

So, from North EDSA, Quezon Avenue, Cubao, Quezon Avenue to Fairview, be ready to get some good vibes by shopping your favorite items at a special price.

4. Lafang in QC

One of the most anticipated happening this weekend is the Quezon City Food Festival. Featuring Maginahawa Street’s affordable yet very delicious meals, Quezon City Food Festival will go all the way to La Loma where lechoneros will prepare a boodle feast for everyone.

Maginhawa Street

If you wanna enjoy something that’s really unique with a bit of art to keep you inspired or if you are a real foodie who is up for the challenge to do an all-day food tour, be at Maginhawa Street as early as possible. As from what I've heard, the Quezon City government will be giving out stubs or vouchers to some selected attendees for them to try the amazing meals prepared by Maginhawa Street tenants for FREE!

La Loma's Lechon

But if Lechon or the Roasted Pig is so hard for you to say no, then I hope to see you in La Loma, Quezon City - the Lechon Capital of the Philippines!

5. Rammmpa Back in Time in QC

Who would've known that this city, aside from being named as one of the cities with the world’s best looking men, also encapsulates such rich and well-preserved history landmarks that you could pay a visit when you see and experience Quezon City this weekend.

Quezon Heritage House

For those who love politics and government, the Quezon City government has opened to the public the Quezon Family Heritage House in the heart of Quezon City Memorial Circle. A few steps away from remains of Former President Manuel Quezon, which is safely and securely kept inside the shrine in the middle of this national park, the Quezon Heritage House is now a walk-through museum where some of the families old furniture, clothes and personal items are on display.

You can to book your visit here, so head on to Quezon City Tourism Office first before going straight here.  Quezon City Tourism Office is located inside the Quezon City Hall.

Quezon City Hall

For those who love history, the Tandang Sora Shrine is the place to visit. Surrounded by interesting facts and figures, when I went there last weekend, I got a chance to meet one of Tandang Sora or Melchora Aquinos’ great, great grandson.  The place is full of art pieces too from painting, sculptures and stories that are made by some local student to commemorate the 100th birthday of our female hero.

This shrine has a lot of spots where you can have yourself photographed, so make sure that you are at your best when you visit this place.

Lastly, for those who love history and religion, did you know that there’s this old church in San Francisco Del Monte, Quezon City, which is considered the second oldest Franciscan church in the country? Named after the Spanish Franciscan priest San Pedro Bautista, Santuario de San Pedro Bautista, still, has an old courtyard inside the church which lead to this cave, who people believed, was the sanctuary of prayer spot of the late saint.

Santuario de San Pedro Bautista

Though the facade looks so modern now, the lobbies inside and the offices of the church staff were kept well giving every guest that oldie and creepy feel that you would ask for someone to be with you before going in further.

But don’t get me wrong, I personally love who old looking the whole interior is. I even love their backyard where there parish priest has said that they are lending the place to those who wanna hold their wedding reception near the church.

This whole Quezon City experience is honestly an eye-opening experience to me and at the same time a dream-come-true because I've been dying to do this for a long time. And I guess, with this weekend upcoming activities, I’ll be seeing these things again and probably more and more and more of Quezon City!

Happy 75th Anniversary, Quezon City! Keep producing unique ideas and cute men! Hahaha!

Happy Rammmpa!
